YouTube Top Channels by Category

YouTube sorts every video - and by extension every creator - into content categories such as Music, Gaming, Sports and Entertainment. This page ranks the leading channels within each category by subscriber count, so you can see at a glance who dominates a niche and how far its ladder reaches.

Pick a category above to open its ranking. Every list shows up to 50 channels with their subscriber count, total views and number of uploads, can be re-sorted by any of those columns, and refreshes every 12 hours.

How these rankings are built

Each list starts from the category's own most-popular chart: we look at which channels are behind the videos YouTube currently ranks highest in that category, deduplicate them into a single set, and order it by subscriber count. The result is a picture of the biggest channels actively winning attention in the niche right now - not a static all-time census.

That methodology has a useful side effect: a giant channel that has gone quiet eventually drops off, while a fast riser that keeps landing on the most-popular chart earns its slot. Subscriber counts, view totals and video counts come straight from the official YouTube Data API; channels that hide their subscriber count are shown as "Hidden".

Why benchmark against top channels?

Category leaders define the ceiling of a niche. Their subscriber-to-view ratios tell you how loyal the audience is, their upload counts reveal whether the niche rewards volume or precision, and the gap between #1 and #10 tells you how concentrated the niche is. If you create in a category, these lists are your reference points for what "big" actually means there.

They are also a scouting tool: sponsors and collaborators use category rankings to shortlist channels with proven reach, and the sort-by-views and sort-by-videos options surface channels whose strengths a subscriber ranking alone would hide.

Frequently asked questions

How are these lists put together?

Each ranking is derived from the channels behind the category's current most-popular videos on YouTube, deduplicated and ordered by subscriber count - up to 50 channels per category, refreshed every 12 hours through the official YouTube Data API.

Why is a famous channel missing from its category?

Only channels currently represented on the category's most-popular chart enter the ranking. A giant that has gone quiet, or one whose videos are categorized differently at upload (creators pick the category per video), won't appear - which keeps the list a live ranking rather than a hall of fame.

Which matters more - subscribers or views?

They answer different questions: subscribers measure reach potential and loyalty, views measure realized attention. A channel with a tight views-to-subscribers ratio has an audience that actually shows up; a channel with outsized views relies on search and casual traffic. Use both sort options and compare.

How often do the rankings change?

The data refreshes every 12 hours. Subscriber counts move slowly (they are cumulative), so the top rarely reshuffles overnight - but the membership churns at the edges as different channels rotate through each category's most-popular chart.
